Hi Helena,
I use spirulina and I raise eclectus. I put it on their soft food. The babies
get it in their formula.
Those who have made a connection between toe-tapping and wing-flipping and
spirulina may be pointing their fingers in the wrong direction. I think
something else is causing the problem.
Some people think it is hypervitaminosis...too many vitamins. Some people think
it is too little calcium. Some people think it is pellets.
Some people think it is poor grade spirulina that has been contaminated with
impurities. This would be spirulina imported from countries other than the
US/Hawaii.
In over 8 years of raising eclectus and with all the ecelctus I have, There is
only one boy with a toe-tapping and wing twitching problem. It just started and
I have separated him from the communal cage so I can see which foods he eats and
which he leaves. This will give me a clue as to the origin of his problem.
I have no doubt that it is diet related, but is it vitamins or individual
allergies, I don't know. I do know that if it was spirulina, I would have seen
this problem long before now.
